Experiences From Families We Have Helped

I came to Sri Kasih not knowing very much about how custody arrangements worked here. Nadia sat with me for almost two hours at the first meeting and explained everything without making me feel rushed. The custody arrangement we reached took about six weeks, and I was kept informed the whole time. I appreciate that nobody pushed me towards outcomes I wasn't comfortable with.

We used the mediation service after my wife and I had reached a point where direct conversations weren't going anywhere productive. Razif kept things very level. Neither of us felt judged, and he was careful not to favour one side. We arrived at an agreement over three sessions that we both felt was workable. The fee was clearly explained upfront, which I valued.

Siti helped me understand a prenuptial agreement that my partner had received from a lawyer. She went through it section by section and flagged two clauses that she thought I should query. She didn't pressure me either way — she just made sure I understood what I was looking at. That clarity was genuinely helpful.

The initial consultation was free from pressure. I had contacted a few firms and Sri Kasih was the only one that offered to provide written notes after the first meeting. That made a difference — I could read through everything at home and think before deciding. They understood that this wasn't a simple administrative matter for me.

I found the mediation process difficult at times — family matters generally are — but Razif was steady throughout. He never let things escalate and brought both parties back to practical questions when conversations became emotional. The Saturday appointment option was very useful given my work schedule.

We engaged Sri Kasih for a marital agreement ahead of our wedding. Siti explained which aspects of the agreement would hold up under Malaysian law and which ones had limitations. She was honest about that rather than just telling us what we wanted to hear. Completed within about three weeks, and we both left confident in what we had signed.

How We Helped — In More Detail
These accounts describe real situations — details adjusted for privacy — to give a fuller picture of how our work unfolds.
A Custody Arrangement for Two Young Children
The Situation
A mother in Petaling Jaya came to us following the breakdown of a long marriage. Both parents wanted custody of their two children, aged 5 and 8. Discussions between them had become strained and she was not sure how to proceed without making things worse for the children.
What We Did
We began with separate consultations for each parent to understand their concerns and priorities. We then proposed a joint parenting arrangement that reflected both the school schedules and each parent's availability. We facilitated several structured conversations and drafted a parenting plan.
Outcome
A shared custody arrangement was agreed upon within eight weeks, without formal court proceedings. Both parents signed the parenting plan. The children's school schedule was unaffected. The mother described the process as "manageable, which was more than I expected."
Timeline: 8 weeks · No court proceedings required
Resolving a Property Dispute Through Mediation
The Situation
A couple in the process of separating had reached disagreement over the family home and a jointly owned vehicle. Both were represented by separate solicitors and the matter had reached a point where litigation seemed likely — and expensive.
What We Did
We arranged pre-mediation sessions with each party. Our mediator established the key sticking points and worked to help each side articulate what they actually needed — as opposed to their initial stated positions. Three joint sessions followed over three weeks.
Outcome
An agreement was reached on both the property and the vehicle without court involvement. The total process took four weeks and cost significantly less than contested proceedings would have. A memorandum of understanding was signed by both parties.
Timeline: 4 weeks · Agreement reached outside court
Reviewing a Prenuptial Agreement Before Signing
The Situation
A woman in Kuala Lumpur had been given a draft prenuptial agreement prepared by her fiancé's family solicitor. She felt uncertain about several clauses and wanted to understand what she was agreeing to before the wedding date, which was three weeks away.
What We Did
We reviewed the agreement and identified three clauses that were either unenforceable under Malaysian law or disproportionately weighted against her interests. We prepared a written explanation of each clause and recommended amendments, which she shared with her fiancé's solicitor.
Outcome
Two of the three flagged clauses were amended before the document was finalised. She signed the agreement with full awareness of its scope and limitations. She noted that the consultation had taken "less time than I feared" and that she felt considerably more at ease about the process.
Timeline: 10 days · 2 of 3 clauses amended before signing
